FEAR EVERYTHING

.

Logline: A young woman finds her friends’ fears being turned into terrifying reality and tries to find the courage to defeat the demon that’s doing it — a demon she brought here.

Tone: “Alien” meets “Nightmare on Elm Street.”

.

TITLE OVER:

The rituals you are about to see were merely inspired by
those used in real life.
Actual demonic rituals are not portrayed in this film in order
to protect the filmmakers.

FADE IN:

INT. DORMITORY EAST BASEMENT – NIGHT
It’s a small, gray room of busted pipes and rusted walls.

EXTREME CLOSE on an attractive female college student, about
19. She’s working hard to keep her composure –

This is SHAYE.

After a moment, she breathes deep, looks into the CAMERA –

SHAYE
Listen to me. I’ve been trying to explain…

She’s already starting to fall apart.

SHAYE
I wasn’t trying to hurt anyone, not
anyone. It was…was actually the opposite.

By now the audience thinks she’s explaining it to them or to
a video camera – they’ll be proven wrong…

Shaye paces –

SHAYE
You people don’t understand what’s
happening here. I do. N-not totally but, but-

She’s breaking down, screaming her words now –

SHAYE
Listen! You, you have to believe
me! I was trying to save them, not
kill them, not get them killed!
We’re the only ones left! And we,
we have to, to trust each other!

She seems completely insane now –

SHAYE
Don’t you see? We have to trust
each other to save each other!
Because I don’t want to die, and I
don’t want to let other people die!
But in here? I can’t help you! In
here I’m dead! You’re dead! You’re all dead!

She begins banging her fists on the CAMERA, REVEALING that
we’ve been watching her through a window all this time…

SHAYE
If I’m dead, you’ll be dead! I
can’t stop it from here, I can’t!
You have to let me out! You have
to! You have to! You have to…oh
god you have to….
(trails off)

Her pounding weakens as she slides below the glass…

CAMERA SPINS:

Nine students and one teacher stand there – all haggard,
bloody, sweaty.

One student, KEV, looks to the teacher, MR. PACE.

KEV
Mr. Pace? W-what do we do?

Pace takes a breath, wipes his bloody stump of a forearm
across his sweat-ridden brow.

MR. PACE
We let her out, Kev. But if she
does anything that seems
suspicious, then it’s obvious.
(beat)
We kill ‘er. We’ll kill Shaye.

FADE TO BLACK.

Title Over:

Two Hours Earlier…

EXT. CALIFORNIA COLLEGE – DORMITORY EAST – NIGHT
Signs for the college indicate our location.
It’s a chilly evening for California – autumn in November…

The dorm is a converted Gothic hotel or apartment building.
It looks eerie against the night sky.

MONTAGE:

MOVING THROUGH DORM –

INT. CALIFORNIA COLLEGE – DORMITORY EAST – MOVING
At the top floor –

Two attractive, typical-looking (in their Abercrombe & Fitch
clothes, etc.) girls hang out in their dorm room.
One puts on makeup, the other reads a magazine and texts.

MOVING –

THROUGH NARROW HALLS –

The hallway is empty –

The place looks, feels deserted –

Sparse Thanksgiving decorations are seen –

Some have been vandalized in bawdy combinations –

DOWN into the STAIRS –

A lesbian couple makes out –

A bored guy – somewhat effeminate – sits on steps nearby,
checks his phone periodically, rolls his eyes at the couple.

CONTINUING through hallways –

We’re seeing how deserted the place is –

It’s ominous –

ANOTHER ROOM – A LARGER ONE –

Two frat-type guys and two girls make out, drink beers –

Two more couples out on the fire escape –

In between kisses, one guy chugs a beer, tosses it to the
street, grabs another beer.

CONTINUING FURTHER DOWN –

Another DORM ROOM –

A nerdy guy types vigorously at his computer in the dark –

Two dorky friends flank him.

MOVING –

DOWN TO LOBBY/RECEPTION AREA –

The lobby has an old, worn chair & worn-out couch.
Laying upon the latter is a black guy (Kev, seen in the
teaser); we see him ranting to his friend at reception about
something-or-other –

AT THE RECEPTION DESK –

A hipster is checking out something on his computer, smiling,
nodding. He calls his friend over with a wave –
CAMERA moves back outside –

EXT. DORMITORY EAST – CONTINUOUS

A car is driving by and suddenly stops when a BEER CAN drops
onto its windshield.

The teacher from inside the car, gets out, looks up –

The teacher, Mr. Pace, currently with two hands, angrily
heads inside, but –

The CAMERA moves in THROUGH A WINDOW AT SIDEWALK LEVEL –

INT. DORMITORY EAST BASEMENT – CONTINUOUS

We MOVE through a laundry room, one machine spinning –

Through a rusty door –

Dark hallway –

We pass the GRAY ROOM seen at the start –

Continuing –

Getting darker –

Through a door with a LOOSENED chain on it –

END MONTAGE.

INT. DORMITORY EAST BASEMENT, BACK ROOM – CONTINUOUS
The room is dingy, dark – save for some candlelight.

Two girls, KARA and TAMARA, looking alternative and somewhat
Goth, are drawing a symbol on the floor with lipstick.
Tamara makes an error, wipes the floor with the bottom of her
stockinged foot, re-draws.

TAMARA
Shit. This lipstick sucks.

KARA
Got it from my roommate. Blame her.

TAMARA
Uch. She’s a bitch.

KARA
You think everyone’s a bitch.

SHAYE (O.S.)
Your roommates scare me, Kara.

The other two shrug and keep looking to an old, worn book on
the floor nearby for reference.

In the corner sits Shaye. She’s cradling upon her knees a
much larger book. An image of an ancient demon on the cover.

She’s wearing a vinyl black backpack.

Shaye stands, moves the candles to form a triangle next to
the image being drawn on the floor.

INSERT:

Image –

A Goetic Circle w/these names surrounding it:
Berkaial (a bat beneath the name),
Amasarc (1/2 skull & crossbones),
Asaradec (longhorns),
Akibeel (black cat).
A triangle and three circles are drawn within.

BACK TO SHOT.

Shaye sits in between two of the candles, still reading.

SHAYE
Tamara, place the black mirror down.

Tamara places a BLACK MIRROR in the circle. Moves out of it,
places one more candle on the other side of the circle.

She looks to Shaye.

SHAYE
Yeah, light that one now.

Lit, the candle reveals, on the wall, “Asteroth’s Seal”: A
circle with a pentagram and small circles within it.

SHAYE
(quiet, patient)
Are you two ready?

The other two nod. Shaye closes the book.
